130km of rolling roads and a few narrow lanes around Grantham made for a good race. We had 4 riders Charlie, Jake, Joe and Liam, all keen as mustard to make an impression. After 40km of attacking and covering attacks, Jake escaped in a 7 man group. Inspite of some hard riding by Jake a few of the other riders, the break never gained more than 30 seconds. With several strong teams having missed the move the bunch was chasing hard.
After 90km covered the break was reeled in. The attacks and counter attacks were constant, but nothing was sticking. With 15km to go Jake managed to get away. This was perfect tactically.
Jake pulled out a gap of 40 seconds on the now depleted bunch and held this time advantage to the line to take a well earned victory, with Joe 6th, on the back of great team work and hard committed riding. This win underlined Jake’s return to form after his crash at The Klondike GP.
